Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) project for industries in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area is facing a shortage of land. The approved land of one and a half acres is not enough, and the area and capacity of the project will need to be expanded. In addition to the MIDC in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the CETP will now also consider chemical effluents from the riverbeds of the Chakan and Talegaon MIDCs.
There are over 10,000 small and medium industries in the city, and the issue of industrial wastewater is becoming increasingly serious. However, there appears to be a lack of sufficient seriousness from both the MIDC and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation administration regarding this issue.
A CETP project with an average capacity of 1 MLD is proposed to be established on one and a half acres of land at Gawlimatha, Plot No. T-188 in the Bhosari MIDC area. The land has been leveled for the project. Groundbreaking for this project was done nearly two and a half years ago, but actual work has not yet started.
Accelerating the Project
This project is being developed with the joint efforts of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), PCMC CETP Foundation, and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place on February 8, 2023. Over the past two and a half years, the progress of the project has slowed down. Recently, the state’s industries minister held a meeting in Chinchwad and ordered the immediate commencement of the work for this project.
Following this order, efforts will be made to accelerate the project. A key issue is how to properly dispose of harmful chemicals from major industries like plating, powder coating, and paint, and the CETP project will need to process these chemicals.
Demand for Four Acres of Land
Entrepreneurs have recently requested the state’s Industries Minister Uday Samant to consider expanding the area for the CETP project from one and a half acres to four acres.
