Municipalities, private schools ban on use of obscene language; Implementation of abuse free society campaign

Slang words insulting femininity and obscene insults are widely used on mother and sister

Pimpri Chinchwad: Many students in schools use abusive language, which leads to the humiliation of mothers, sisters, and womanhood in general. As a result, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and private schools have imposed a ban on the use of vulgar abuses. Headmasters have also been instructed to ensure that students take an oath for an abuse-free society. This campaign will be implemented in schools.

While various occasions like Mother’s Day, Raksha Bandhan, Bhau Beej, and Women’s Day are celebrated in the state, abusive and vulgar language directed at mothers and sisters, insulting womanhood, is being used widely. This undermines social and moral values. Using abuse is a socially disruptive act, and caste-based abuses are legally considered a crime. Abusive language towards women is also a crime. Efforts are being made in municipal schools to foster a sense of gender equality among students. Every school will take the initiative to teach students the importance of respecting mothers and sisters. Students will be asked to take a pledge not to use abuses. As a result, a ban has been imposed on the use of vulgar and abusive language, especially against women, in both municipal and private schools.

Letter to Headmasters of Municipal Schools
In the city, a large number of children from working-class, laborer, and migrant families attend municipal schools, with some secondary students working while studying. The surrounding environment affects these students, and they often use abusive language in school. However, the government has launched the ‘Abuse-Free Society’ campaign, and a ban on abuses has been implemented in both municipal and private schools. The education department has issued letters to the headmasters of these schools.

“Letters have been sent to all headmasters of municipal and private schools as per the government’s circular. As per this directive, the use of vulgar abuses that insult mothers, sisters, and womanhood has been banned. Students will take an oath to promote respect for womanhood, uphold cultural values, and adhere to the provisions of the Indian Constitution. This campaign has been initiated in the city,” said Sangeeta Bangar, Administration Officer, Primary Education Department, Municipal Corporation.
