Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday stated, there is no link between the process of National Population Register (NPR) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). NPR is register of population, NRC is register of citizens. they have different processes,” Amit Shah told.
Amit Shah also put the clarification, that NPR data cannot be used for the purpose of NRC. No one will lose citizenship as a result of the NPR exercise, he said. Shah’s remarks came on a day the Union Cabinet approved the proposal for conducting Census of India 2021 and updating of NPR.
The Union minister said that while census was held every 10 years. The NPR was started by the UPA government and the present government was only carrying it forward as it was a “good exercise”.
Shaha also slammed the opposition, he siad, now people are understanding the concept of CAA. The protests are dying down. But the opposition party is trying to spread fear over NPR, said Union home minister.
