१९२१ मध्ये महात्मा गांधी यांनी सुरू केलेल्या असहकार आंदोलनात वयाच्या पंधराव्या वर्षी चंद्रशेखर आझाद यांनी सहभाग घेतला होता. त्यासाठी त्यांना अटक झाली होती. तेव्हा न्यायालयात चंद्रशेखर यांनी आपले आडनाव ‘आझाद’ असल्याचे नोंदवले. तेव्हापासून त्यांना त्याच आडनावाने ओळखले जाऊ लागले.
चंद्रशेखर आझाद उर्फ चंद्रशेखर सीताराम तिवारी भारतीय लढ्यातील थोर क्रांतीकारक होते. यांचा जन्म २३ जुलै, इ.स. १९०६ रोजी सध्याच्या अलिराजपूर जिल्ह्यातील भावरा या गावात झाला होता.
आज क्रांतिकारक चंद्रशेखर आझाद यांची जयंती त्यानिमित्त त्यांना अनेक राजकीय नेत्यांनी अभिवादन केले आहे.
