Shreyas Iyer Century, Mumbai vs Karnataka, Vijay Hazare Trophy:-Shreyas Iyer delivered a sensational performance in India’s domestic One-Day tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Leading Mumbai, Iyer unleashed a brutal attack on the Karnataka bowlers. He brought up his century in just 50 balls, finishing with an impressive 114 runs off 55 balls. His innings included 10 sixes and 5 fours, helping Mumbai set a massive target of 382 runs while batting first. With his powerful knock, Iyer made a strong case for a place in the Champions Trophy squad next year in Pakistan.

Shreyas Iyer’s ‘Storm’ in Ahmedabad

The Vijay Hazare Trophy kicked off on December 21, with 18 matches scheduled in the first round. In the K Group, Mumbai played Karnataka at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. During this match, Iyer’s explosive batting was on full display. Coming in to bat at the 30th over with Mumbai at 2 for 148, Iyer took charge immediately.

Iyer’s 10 Sixes

Iyer completed his half-century in the first 31 balls and then smashed a rapid century in the next 19 balls. He added 14 more runs in the last 5 balls, scoring 114 runs off just 55 balls at a strike rate of 207. In the process, he faced only 13 dot balls, with 70% of his runs coming from boundaries. Iyer hit 5 fours and an incredible 10 sixes.

Shivam Dube Shines, Suryakumar Yadav Disappoints

Karnataka won the toss and invited Mumbai to bat, a decision that proved costly. Mumbai’s start was slow, with opening batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi dismissed in the 4th over. However, Ayush Mhatre and Hardik Tamore added 141 runs for the second wicket. Ayush scored 78 off 82 balls, and Hardik made 84 off 94 balls. Apart from Iyer’s century, Shivam Dube also impressed with a rapid 63 off just 36 balls, striking at 175. However, Suryakumar Yadav could only manage 20 runs off 16 balls before being dismissed.
