Relief for PMPML Employees: First Installment of Seventh Pay Commission arrears approved

PCMC chief Shekhar Singh gives the green signal for ₹56.10 crore disbursement

MLA Mahesh Landge’s persistent efforts bear fruit

Pimpri : In a significant development for the employees of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), the long-pending arrears of the Seventh Pay Commission will soon be disbursed. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has approved the release of ₹56.10 crores towards the first installment, bringing much-needed financial relief to over 11,000 employees.

Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh sanctioned the funds as an exceptional case from the 2024-25 operational deficit budget. This comes after BJP MLA Mahesh Landge’s consistent follow-up on the matter. The decision to release the arrears in four installments was taken during a high-level meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister, representatives from PMPML, labor unions, and elected officials.

PMPML was formed after the merger of the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad transport services, with the two corporations sharing the operational deficit—Pune covering 60% and Pimpri-Chinchwad 40%. The Seventh Pay Commission arrears, spanning from April 1, 2017, to November 30, 2022, amount to ₹561 crores in total, of which Pimpri-Chinchwad’s share stands at ₹224.40 crores.

The immediate release of ₹56.10 crores represents the first of four installments, marking a major milestone in addressing the grievances of the employees, who have long been awaiting these funds.

BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who represents Bhosari, played a key role in ensuring the disbursement. “After consistent efforts at all levels, we have succeeded in getting the first installment of the arrears approved. Employees will receive the difference soon,” said Landge.

With the first installment now cleared, PMPML employees can expect the pending arrears to be fully settled over the next few months, bringing much-needed financial stability. The approval has created a positive atmosphere among employees, who are grateful for the timely intervention.

For PMPML and its employees, this decision not only resolves a long-standing issue but also sets a precedent for smoother coordination between municipal authorities and the transport body in the future.
