Kanashi, a village with a population of 3,000 in Bhadgaon taluka on the banks of the Girna River, says that the Mahanubhav sect’s Mahant Landge Maharaj, a resident of Chakradhar Swami’s ashram in the village, has a history of Chakradhar Swami coming to this village in the 12th century. He also says that since this land has become holy with the touch of Chakradhar Swami, the entire villagers have accepted the morals of Chakradhar Swami i.e. Mahanubhava Panth. The village has a grand temple of Chakradhar Swami, as well as an ashram. Followers of Mahanubhava sect from all over the country come here for darshan.
From the day that Chakradhar Swami came to the village, till today, not a single villager in this village has drunk, nor does anyone drink alcohol. The entire village has been following the tradition of vegetarianism for almost eight hundred years. Not only this, the animals which are considered meat eaters i.e. chicken and goat are also not reared in this village. Landge Maharaj also says.
Along with village shops, development, milk dairy named Chakradhar Swamy
The entire village worships Chakradhar Swami. Chakradhar Swami’s thoughts also have a hold on the villagers of this village. Therefore, the shops, development society and milk dairy in this village are also named after Chakradhar Swami. Every household in the village has been following vegetarianism for generations. Villagers say that if the daughter-in-law who gets married in the village eats meat, they also become vegetarian according to the tradition of the father-in-law and follow the vegetarian diet forever.
Citizens also say that people here do not eat meat even if the doctor has told them about a disease. When the villagers here say that they have not seen how the meat is, how it looks, what the eggs look like, they are surprised. Every villager in this village is following vegetarian diet from birth till death. So no one is addicted to alcohol in the whole village. This is why the small village of Kanashi has a unique identity in the state and is the only village in the state that has been following vegetarianism for generations.
