‘Power Game’ in Pimpri-Chinchwad Today – Separate Rallies by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar Factions

Pimpri Chinchwad | Pimpri-Chinchwad is traditionally considered a stronghold of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In an effort to retain control ahead of the municipal elections, two separate rallies will be held in the city on Tuesday (June 17) by the factions led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar. Both leaders—uncle and nephew—will be present in the city for the events.
At one point, the NCP held dominance over Pimpri-Chinchwad. However, in the 2017 municipal elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) broke this stronghold, securing a decisive majority in the municipal corporation. About two and a half years ago, the NCP split, with Ajit Pawar’s faction aligning with the BJP. Now, with preparations underway for the upcoming municipal elections, both NCP factions are organizing separate rallies.
Sharad Pawar’s faction will hold its rally at Tathawade at 11 a.m., with NCP President Sharad Pawar, Jayant Patil, MP Supriya Sule, and Dr. Amol Kolhe in attendance. Ajit Pawar’s faction will hold its rally in Bhosari at 4 p.m., with Ajit Pawar himself expected to attend.
Amid the municipal election backdrop, political developments are unfolding in both NCP factions. It is reported that a group of 28 individuals, including former Standing Committee Chairman Ajit Gawhane—who had joined the Sharad Pawar faction before the assembly elections—will return to their original fold on Tuesday. However, no official statements have yet been made regarding this. On the other hand, some office-bearers from other parties are also expected to join the Sharad Pawar faction.
