Maharashtra relieved by Ukada in May; Meteorological Department Forecast

Pune: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast below-average temperatures in central, eastern and southern parts of the country, including Maharashtra, in May. The state is expected to receive above-average rainfall this month and nighttime temperatures could remain above average, the IMD forecast said. (Pune Temperature Update)

The IMD’s May weather forecast indicates that the situation is likely to change in the near future as heat waves are currently raging in most parts of the country. The Director General of IMD, Dr. Mrityunjay Mahapatra announced the May weather forecast at an online press conference on Saturday.

Dr. “Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to experience above average temperatures in May,” Mahapatra said. Elsewhere in the country, the maximum temperature is likely to be below average.

“Except for the states where the maximum temperature is expected to be above average, other states in the country will receive above average rainfall,” he said. This means that the amount of rain with lightning in the month of May will be higher this year. With the exception of Marathwada, South India and parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature is likely to be higher than average in other parts of the country. Mahapatra said.

High temperatures in northwest India

After the record temperature was recorded across the country in March, record temperature was also recorded in some parts of the country in April. Mrityunjay Mahapatra said. “Northwest and Central India recorded a 122-year high in April this year, while April was the fourth warmest month in the country,” he said. Earlier, in April 2010, 2016 and 1973, the highest temperature was recorded in April.
