Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Plant Over 1.5 Lakh Indigenous Trees Over the Year Starting from Environment Day

Pimpri | In a major step towards maintaining environmental balance and ensuring a healthy atmosphere, the Garden and Tree Conservation Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a significant initiative. Beginning on World Environment Day (June 5, 2025), around 1.5 lakh indigenous trees will be planted across the city over the course of the year.

As part of this campaign, a Tree Plantation Week will also be observed from June 5 to June 11, 2025, involving a range of programs at social, educational, and local levels.

Various activities to be implemented during the week

1. Plantation of Indigenous Trees and Public Awareness:
To highlight the importance of ecological balance, indigenous species of trees will be planted. This will be accompanied by an extensive awareness campaign on the value of tree plantation.

2. Special Interaction Sessions:
Interactive sessions will be conducted in collaboration with senior citizens, environmentalists, tree experts, and social organizations working in the field of environmental conservation.

3. Student Participation:
Educational tours to parks will be organized for school students under the Majhi Vasundhara (My Earth) initiative, including plantation activities and guidance sessions to instill environmental awareness.

4. Activities in All Zonal Offices:

PCMC’s zonal offices will carry out local-level tree plantation drives and environmental education activities.

5. Plantation on Defense Lands:
Tree plantation will also be conducted on vacant defense land within the municipal limits.

Important Message:

Trees are not just for beautification—they are sources of oxygen, provide shade, and help preserve biodiversity. Therefore, citizens are urged to plant and care for at least one indigenous tree each year as a contribution to an environmentally sustainable lifestyle.

“This initiative is not merely a campaign, but a long-term pledge for the protection of our environment.”
Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner (1), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
