Gutka worth Rs 19 lakh seized, Dhule police nab smugglers

Dhule : Police of Shirpur taluka in the district have taken major action. Shirpur police had received confidential information that gutka was being smuggled from Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra. Based on this information, Shirpur police launched a search operation on the Mumbai-Agra highway. The police have had great success in this campaign. Shirpur police have seized gutka worth Rs 19 lakh coming from Madhya Pradesh. Shirpur City Police Station Assistant Inspector Ganesh Phad had received confidential information that the gutkha coming from Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra was coming from the Mumbai-Agra highway. Based on that information, the Shirpur city police had deployed its search team on the Mumbai-Agra highway to monitor all the oncoming vehicles. At the same time, the police suspected the driver of the vehicle MH 18 BG 8647 and asked the driver to pull over. The driver tried to flee from the spot but he was caught by the police.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and interrogated by the police. DYSP Anil Mane visited Shirpur police station and got more information from the authorities. While taking action, Shirpur police immediately informed the Food and Drug Administration office and summoned Food and Drug Administration inspector Kishor Baviskar to the Shirpur police station to ascertain the amount of gutkha seized. In the entire operation, the police have seized gutka worth Rs 19 lakh along with the vehicle and two persons and are taking further action against them.
