Gauri Ganpati comes once a year. Gauri and Ganapati arrive around August to September. This festival is celebrated not only in Maharashtra but all over the world. Along with Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh celebrate this festival. The method will be different depending on the part but the purpose is the same

Ganapati Bappa is beloved by all and the founder of knowledge. Bappa has fourteen Vidyas and four Kalas. Bappa is the remover of any calamity, the god of good wisdom (subuddhi) and convenience. That is why Bappa is given the honor of first worship on any auspicious occasion/function. Everyone has a beautiful and beautiful idol of Bappa in their temple.

During the Gauri Ganapati festival, before the arrival of Lord Ganesha, Hartalika fast is performed by Suhasini to ensure her good fortune and to fulfill all the wishes of the Kumarika towards her husband. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shankar are worshiped in it. Then comes Ganesha. On the third day after the arrival of Lord Ganesha, the arrival of Gourai is performed, on the second day Poojan is performed and on the third day Gourai immersion is done. According to tradition, Ganpati sits in the house for one and a half days, three days, five days, seven days and ten days.

1. Who is Gauri Ganapati??
Gauri is considered to be the Shakti form of Parvati and Parvati is the mother of Bappa. In some places Gauraina is considered as Bappa’s sister. It is believed that the sister came home with the brother. It is also said that there is no other pleasure than reliving the old memories of Maher, so Bappa brings his sister to experience Maher. There are two gaurais. One is senior and the other is junior.

2. How is the festival celebrated??
The festival of Gauri Ganapati is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Preparations start when Ganapati is few days away. Makhar is decorated to welcome Ganapati and Gauri. Lighting of lamps, flower garlands, clay toys, some fruits are kept there. Many people book the idol a few days in advance while some bring it on the day of Ganapati’s arrival itself.

In some places there is an anarsa or pedha paar for Ganesha. That is, if vows have been taken at that house, 11, 21, 33 are made of pedha or anarse and Ganesha is placed on it, then Puja Aarti is performed and only then Ganesha is seated in Makhar. Pedhe and Anarse are taken as Prasad. Various modaks, laddus, puranpoli, jaggery coconuts, kheer are offered to Bappa.

Mice are important as they are the vehicle of Lord Ganesha. Rat seed is the day of rats. On this day, bags of different pulses are made and placed in hidden places in the fields and houses. So that rats can eat it.

4. Gauri arrives
On this day, Parvati comes to your house as a resident. On that day, the women of the house draw rangoli at the door, take the steps of Lakshmi, play the plate and spoon and bring the mask of Gauri i.e. Lakshmi into the house. She arrives saying, “Kashane ali with golden footsteps”. They are placed in a decorated Makhar. Gaurai is decorated with beautiful ornaments, garlands of flowers, new sarees. They are worshiped by putting turmeric and kunku and wearing malvastra.

5. Gauri worship
Gourai eat on this day. Purana is offered for this purpose. Sixteen vegetables are grown in many areas. On this day, Puja Naivedya Aarti is performed.

6. Gauri immersion
The third day is the immersion day. On this day masks are moved by carrying turmeric kunku. That is, Gauri is believed to have been immersed. On that day, neighboring women are invited and given turmeric kunku. Everyone rushes to each other’s house to see each other’s gauri aras. In the evening, all the decorations are taken down.

That is Anant Chaturdashi. According to tradition, Ganpati immersion is done keeping as many days as there are days of Ganpati. On this day, Aarti is performed by adding turmeric, kunku, akshad, durva, incense, waving deep and taking out a procession to the sound of music and immersing Ganapati.

7. Ganapati Visarjan will be held on September
On August 31, 10 days after Ganapati’s installation, on September 9, Ganapati returns to his abode. On this day, people perform Ganesha immersion chanting ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya come early next year’. Anant Chaturdashi remains on this day. After this, 15 days of Pitru Paksha begins. During Pitru Paksha, people do pinda daan, tarpan, shraddha etc. for the peace of the souls of ancestors.
