Municipal Corporation to Develop Roads : Meeting to Speed Up Road Work with Commissioner Shekhar Singh

Pimpri-Chinchwad : The Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway No. 48 passes through the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits. Service roads alongside this highway are crucial for ensuring smooth connectivity in the city. With this in mind, Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh has directed all administrative authorities to work in coordination and complete the development of these service roads at a faster pace.
A joint review meeting regarding the development of service roads along National Highway No. 48 within the municipal limits was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Shekhar Singh. Officials from the Municipal Corporation and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) participated in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Sanjay Kadam, Project Director of NHAI, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, City Engineer Makrand Nikam, Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, Special Officer Kiran Gaikwad, and Regional Officer Amit Pandit, among others.
Expansion of Service Roads
Currently, the service road alongside National Highway No. 48 in the city is 12 meters wide. The plan is to extend the width of this road by an additional 12 meters, making the total width 24 meters. The final plan for this project has been prepared by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the road development will be carried out under their supervision. Various issues related to this road were discussed during the review meeting.
Instructions for Coordination
While developing the road, Commissioner Singh has issued instructions for the immediate removal of any hoardings, unauthorized stalls, and construction work that could obstruct the progress of the project. Additionally, while laying underground service lines, future planning should be considered. All services, including sewage lines, water pipelines, electric cables, and stormwater drains, must be planned comprehensively to avoid any future issues. Commissioner Singh also emphasized that the services on the service roads should be taken into account during the development process.
Furthermore, he directed that all works related to electricity, sewage, water supply, encroachments, signage, licenses, and regional offices should be coordinated between various departments. He insisted that the work be completed within the stipulated timeframe and instructed municipal departments to provide necessary cooperation to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Once the service roads along National Highway No. 48 are expanded, it will significantly reduce traffic congestion. These service roads will help alleviate the congestion on the main highway and will contribute to better traffic management in the area.
